Notes From Todays Lesson 29/09/11

Today in Media we had had to sing and mime to Glee - Don't Stop Believing. We done this because sir wanted to show that when you mime in music videos it do not look as natural as when you sing in your music videos Also he wanted us to build our confidence for when we make our music videos. We learned about the 3 main music videos which are: Narrative, Performance, Concept.  We then had to research the 3 main music video types and write a blog about each 3.

Meeting For Music Video. (Kesha-Party At A Rich Dude's House)

Our first idea for our music video is to the song Party At A Rich Dude's House by Ke$ha is to get 16+ students to charge into the staff room and kick chairs and tables over and drinking and vomiting all over the staff room as  well as trashing the roof garden like chucking paper and empty plastic bottles.

Jessie J - Who's Laughing Now

The video of Jessie J - Who's Laughing Now is a Narrative Video which means that it tells a story about the singer.  In this music video she is telling a story about when she was young at school and getting bullied.  At the start of the video and young Jessie is walking through the corridor at school and a group of girls laughing and pointing at Jessie. This suggests that the girls are talking about Jessie and teasing her. Jessie's reaction to this shows that she is feeling uncomfortable about this girls looking and pointing at her. This is shown by Jessie looking at the girls and putting her head down and walking on.  Throughout the video Jessie J is getting bullied in the class room with the girls calling her name and pulling her hair and chair. Towards the end Jessie J stands up to the bullies and fights back. The story of the video is saying about how Jessie has become successful and is saying to the bullies look at me, look who's laughing now.

Cher Lloyd - Swagger Jagger

The video for Swagger Jagger by Cher Lloyd is a performance type video which shows different groups of people dancing to the camera doing their own thing. The video starts of with Cher Lloyd walking down the street with a stereo and listening to music through headphones.

For my media homework I am going to analysis the video Fatboy Slim - Weapon Of Choice. I will be talking about Mise En Scene whihc is what the camera sees. So I will be talking about The follow:

Actor movements/expressions.

At the start of the video there is a man around 40 years of age sitting in a chair dressed smart and looking fed up. From this i get the impression that the man is feeling sad emotion. You can see this by the way he is sitting in the chair. He is sitting in the chair as if he don't care about anything any more. The surrounding light appears to be dull with flickers of light in the background. This sets the scene of depression and sadness.

Florence And The Machine: Mise-En-Sen Analysis

I will be analysing the music video 'Rabbit Heart' by Florence and the machine by using the 5 elements of Mise-en-sen. The 5 elements of Mise-en-sen are as follows:

1) Location, Setting & Props.
2) Costume. Hair & make-up.
3) Facial Expressions & body Language.
4) Lighting & Color.
5) Positioning Of Characters/Objects in the frame.

Location, Setting & Props

The location of the video is set in a park/field surrounded by trees. There is a lake in which Florence float on at the end of the video. The impression I get from this setting is that Florence is in a fairytale. I also get the impression that everything around her is clam.  The setting of the location is sunny and bright. This gives the impression that it could be spring or summer which gives a warm feeling about the video. Florence uses a long dining table in her video where people look as if it's dress to impress. The long dining table is covered with a verity of food such as: Grapes & Oranges. The impression i get from this is that it could be the last super before something happens. i also get the impression of the film Alice In Wonderland. 

Costume. Hair & make-up
Florence is dressed is a pale green to suggest nature which is related to the setting which is based in a park/field. It also suggest that she is bright which links to the weather which is sunny and bright. He hair is like a fire/red colour which can suggest anger and passion towards her emotions. Her lips are a strawberry red which could represent passion or anger.
